Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Design Work

In my work as a designer and leader learning, and cultivating DEI within my organization, teams, and work is a high priority. I am proud to partner with educators to continue my education, and find new and emerging opportunities to have DEI-centered design and marketing.

Artful Home - Artist Voices Email and Social Campaign

Artful Home’s internal DEI group, the IDEA council, came to me with the request of finding a way to increase exposure to non-dominant experiences through our marketing. From this prompt I developed and implemented a new monthly email campaign called “Artist Voices”, that provided a dedicated space in email and social media for a featured artist to share their story and how their lived experiences shape their work. It was important for me that this campaign felt organic and authentic, and focused more on the storytelling than direct selling to create trust and understanding between our brand, the artist sharing their story, and the customer. The stories from artists are prompted by a series of interview questions and are paired with photographs of them working to create a visual connection to the individual behind the work. Through this campaign we are able to celebrate and amplify the stories of artist in their own words.

Short Stack Eatery - Bathroom Signs

In an effort to foster an safe and inclusive environment I worked with the SSE team to design signage for their non-gendered bathrooms, providing information to customers, and also a message about their values.

Short Stack Eatery - Better Together Alternative Valentine’s Day Event

I worked closely with the owners and social media manager to create a unique event that flipped the heteronormative script on Valentine’s Day and created space to celebrate queer romantic as well as platonic friendships. I produced multichannel materials for this including print posters, social posts, digital event banners, special menus, and physical merchandise. The event was well received by the community and has become an annual tradition since 2018.
